The northbound ramp from the Birmingham Bridge to Forbes Avenue in Oakland will close for two weeks beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Tuesday the ramp will close so crews from Swank Construction can paint the steel portions of the ramp. The project is among two bridges and a series of ramps around the Boulevard of the Allies that are being upgraded under a $35.4 million contract.
The recommended detour is for motorists to continue on the bridge past the closed ramp, turn left on Fifth Avenue, left on Gist Street and left on Forbes Avenue.
This part of the project should be finished by March 29.
Overall, the multiyear project includes a series of bridge deck repairs, expansion dam replacements, steel substructure and superstructure repairs, bearing and downspout replacements and full painting.
