What do striking newsroom workers do on Saturdays?
Here’s a photo of about 20 of them at PNC Park savoring the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. the St. Louis Cardinals game, which the Pirates won, thanks to some timely, well, strikes.
The Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh workers appreciated the tickets from the NewsGuild-CWA. They also appreciated how some of their peers showed up early to claim a perfect tailgate spot in the shade of the Fort Duquesne Bridge and fired up regular and vegan hot dogs to go with potluck side dishes — so much watermelon — and cold beer and water for the strikers and significant others and their children, an intern and a friend.
This is what solidarity looks like. Fun.
The PUP is the publication of the striking workers at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
