A group of about 30 people came to the Wilkins Community Center in Swissvale Saturday night to show solidarity with the workers who have been on strike against the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette since October. The benefit was hosted by the Pittsburgh branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
After an introduction from Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh First Vice President Ed Blazina, the supporters watched the 1987 John Sayles movie “Matewan,” about about miners’ brutal battle to form a union in the West Virginia coal town in 1920. It starred Chris Cooper and James Earl Jones.
The PUP is the publication of the striking workers at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
