Despite summer-like temperatures in the 70s and the region’s fall foliage at peak level, a sure sign of the holidays arose in the middle of the UPMC Rink at PPG Place, Downtown, on Thursday. The Christmas tree is up, unlit of course, as crews prepared the surrounding ice rink. It will open Friday, Nov. 17, according to the PPG Place website, and that is the day before Light Up Night.
This year skaters can prepay for tickets online to guarantee a date and entry time slot. Walk-up in-person sales will still be available, but long waits on busy dates can be avoided if advance tickets are purchased online, according to the site.
