The USS 7 eaglet nesting with parents Irvin and Claire near U. S. Steel’s Irvin Plant has a new name, thanks to an online contest and fundraiser for Tamarack Wildlife Center: Lucky.

For a minimum $5 donation, voters could choose from one of six name options, with all the proceeds benefiting Tamarack and the organization’s work rescuing and rehabilitating injured, sick and orphaned wildlife, according to a U.S. Steel media representative. The contest raised a total of $7,000, thanks to the nearly 200 donors from 25 states and two countries.

The new name fits just fine, according to the faithful watching the family constantly on the PixCams at the nest, especially after mom Claire had to work to free the eaglet from some fishing line that entangled it on Sunday. She pecked away at it, then flew away.

Visit the U.S. Steel eagle PixCams to keep up with Lucky. That eaglet is growing up fast.
