Weekends may mean time off for some people, but not for road workers as traffic restrictions begin Friday on three major road projects in the area.

Here are the biggest areas to avoid:

  • Evergreen Road – A month of traffic restrictions begin 8 a.m. Friday with one lane in each direction from Ivory Avenue to Venture Street through mid-July. This work is part of Lindy Paving Inc.’s $27 million project that will improve McKnight Road from Venture Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side to Perrymont Road in McCandless through spring 2025.
  • Interstate 79 – Southbound traffic will be restricted to one lane between the Route 60/Crafton interchange and the Interstate 376 Airport/Pittsburgh interchange from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday. The restriction will allow Golden Triangle Construction Inc. to conduct concrete patching work as part of a $25 million highway restoration project in Robinson and Kennedy that will last until next spring. The work will include upgrading six bridges and 10 ramps.
  • Parkway East – Beginning 9 p.m. Friday, the highway will be limited to one lane in each direction instead of three between the Business Route 22 exit and the bridge over Old William Penn Highway. The restriction will continue until 5 a.m. Sunday while crews for Swank Construction Co. LLC reconstruct concrete approach slabs to the bridge. It’s one of nine bridges scheduled for major work during a $70.1 million project to rebuild the highway between the Churchill and Monroeville exits through fall 2026.
