Motorists on the Parkway East will face another weekend of single-lane traffic in each direction between Churchill and Monroeville from 9 p.m. Saturday until noon Sunday.

This time, the restrictions from the Churchill interchange to the bridge over Old William Penn Highway are needed so crews can change the traffic pattern on the highway.

On the inbound side, traffic in the three-lane area beginning at the end of the Monroeville on-ramp will be shifted from the two outer lanes of travel to the two inner lanes until the area near the Penn Hills exit. There, it will be shifted to the two outer lanes.

Outbound traffic at Churchill will be shifted from the two inner lanes to the two outer lanes until the Penn Hills exit, where it will shift to the two inner lanes.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said all Penn Hills ramps will remain open after the new traffic pattern is established. That pattern is expected to last until early September while crews from Swank Construction Co. continue work on two bridges over Old William Penn Highway.

Swank has a $70.1 million contract to rebuild 4.5 miles of the highway between Churchill and Monroeville. The three-year project should be done in fall 2026.
