Point Park University’s Center for Media Innovation held the third in a summer series of “NewsBreak” panel discussions for the public at lunchtime on Wednesday on the stage at Downtown’s Market Square.

Kim Palmiero, a teaching editor at Point Park’s new Next Generation Newsroom, moderated the panel of Pittsburgh Union Progress co-editor Karen Carlin, Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle writer David Rullo and Next Generation Newsroom reporter Colleen Hammond.

The newsroom, which will use students as well as hired “apprentice” journalists to fill gaps in news coverage in the Pittsburgh area, is to be officially launched on Sept. 27-28 during Point Park’s inaugural Newsapalooza celebration of local journalism, most of which will unfold at the Pittsburgh Playhouse on that Friday. Get details and tickets here.

The NewsBreak series also was sponsored by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
