Throughout October, Pennsylvania Resources Council will collect electronics for recycling on Mondays and Wednesdays in North Park.

Individuals can drop off at the unlimited cell- or home phones; computer towers and peripheral equipment such as keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.; stereo equipment; desktop copiers and scanners; and electronic cables, video game consoles, VCRs, DVD players and cable boxes.

Days and times for the collections are Mondays, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28, and Wednesdays, Oct. 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day at the North Park Swimming Pool in McCandless.

Registration is open for those dates at www.prc.org/CollectionEvents or by calling 412-488-7490. All participants must register before heading to the collection site, according to the PRC news release.

A participant fee of $5 per vehicle will be charged, as well as these per-item fees: printers, $5; flat screen and CRT computer monitors, $20; televisions, $35; and console or rear-projection televisions, $45.

Collecting and bringing these electronics to the collection events makes a difference. “PRC helps residents conveniently and cost-effectively dispose of a wide variety of items not accepted in curbside pickup,” according to PRC Executive Director Darren Spielman in a PRC news release. “We need to divert these materials from landfills since many contain toxic elements that can leach into our waterways and our environment, while others contain valuable recyclables.”

This 2024 PRC weekday e-waste collection campaign is sponsored by the Allegheny County Health and Allegheny County Parks departments.
