There will be traffic restrictions on the Glenwood Bridge for two weeks beginning Sunday evening, but there are only a few other special restrictions this weekend as construction season starts to wind down.

Here are the details:

  • Glenwood Bridge – The bridge that crosses the Monongahela River between Pittsburgh’s Glenwood and Hays neighborhoods will close to outbound traffic from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. next Friday as crews replace an expansion dam. The work will switch to the inbound side at 6 p.m. on Oct. 20 through Oct. 25. Due to the work, Pittsburgh Regional Transit will reroute its 56 Lincoln Place bus using Johnston Avenue, Desdemona Avenue, Imogene Road, Browns Hill Road, the Homestead Grays Bridge, West Eighth Avenue (Route 837) and West Seventh Avenue (Route 837). That will eliminate stops on Second Avenue between Winston and Aluvian streets. Other outbound traffic will be detoured using Irvine Street, Second Avenue, the Hotel Metal Bridge, Hot Metal Street, East Carson Street and Route 885. Northbound traffic will be allowed on the Glenwood Bridge using one lane. The work is part of Allegheny County’s $4.4 million bridge preservation project. Mosites Construction Co. should finish the project by the end of November.
  • Parkway East – The highway will be limited to one lane in each direction from the Business Route 22 interchange to the bridge over Sunset Drive in Monroeville from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. During that time, crews will do latex overlay and asphalt paving work. The work is part of the $70.1 million project by Swank Construction Co. LLC to improve the Parkway East from Churchill to the Monroeville exit at Route 48. That project will last until fall 2026.
  • Interstate 79 – Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in Kennedy and Robinson at 7 p.m. Friday at the structure over Route 60, just north of the Route 60 Crafton/Moon Run offramp while crews conduct concrete overlay work. The restriction is scheduled to last until 6 a.m. Monday but could be removed sooner if work is finished. Also, the ramp from southbound I-79 to southbound Route 60 in Robinson will be closed weeknights through early November. The ramp closed for the first time Thursday night while crews sealed concrete between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The recommended detour has traffic continuing south on I-79 to the Carnegie exit, turning left on West Main Street, right onto I-79 north toward Erie and following that to the Route 60/Crafton/Moon Run exit. Both work areas are part of the $15 million project to improve the highway between the Parkway West Airport/Pittsburgh interchange and one-half mile north of the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton interchange. That project by Golden Triangle Construction Co. continues through next spring.
  • Parkway West – The eastbound highway will be reduced to one lane overnight beginning Monday and lasting through Oct. 24. Shoulder damage repairs and other work will occur between Ridge Road and the Interstate 79 interchange between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. All ramps will remain open. Northeast Paving is scheduled to finish that $12.6 million project that will improve the highway between Campbells Run Road and I-79 by fall 2025.
