The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy invites families to the final Schenley Plaza Kids Day of the 2024 season this Sunday. This special event will celebrate autumn and Halloween with themed entertainment, free activities and delicious treats for all ages.

Kids Day activities will take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to a conservancy news release. All carousel rides will be free throughout its last day of operation for 2024, and lawn games will be available from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Visitors will experience encounters with costumed performers portraying characters from the Harry Potter series, including professors Dumbledore and McGonagall, Moaning Myrtle and Hagrid the gamekeeper. Attendees can enjoy potion-making and spell-casting demonstrations, interact with the characters and explore fantasy-themed toys and role-playing accessories from Silver Dragon Designs, a Monroeville-based creator.

Schenley Scoops, the plaza’s dessert outlet, will offer fall-inspired ice cream flavors, such as apple pie and pumpkin pie.

Additional family friendly activities include a Good Grooves Jazz Performance and instrument “petting zoo” presented by Azure Family Concerts. A musical performance featuring Pittsburgh-based opera talent is also scheduled, according to the news release.

The tradition of Kids Days began with the grand reopening of the redesigned Schenley Plaza on June 8, 2006. Since then, the conservancy has continued to uphold this tradition, according to the news release, providing special days celebrating children and families.

Another family fun event – the Community Campfire — on Saturday, Oct. 19, is sold out. This event first launched in 2016, according to conservancy staff, with proceeds benefiting the education programs at the Frick Environmental Center.
