Traffic patterns on the Parkway East will shift again Tuesday night as part of the continuing improvement project on the highway.
The change, which will begin at 6 p.m., is needed so crews can finish the final phase of structural work on the highway’s bridge over Old William Penn Highway. Swank Construction Co. is in the midst of a $70.1 million project to upgrade the highway between Churchill and the Monroeville exit.
For inbound traffic, drivers will shift from the left lane to the right lane starting at the Monroeville interchange and shift back to the left lane near the Old William Penn Highway Bridge. Outbound drivers will shift from the left lane to the right starting near the Old William Penn Highway Bridge and remain in that pattern through the end of the work zone.
Entry procedures at ramps, such as stop or yield signs, will remain the same. The changes are needed to give crews additional safe workspace.
This pattern will last until mid-November.
The project, which will last until fall 2026, involves rebuilding 4.5 miles of the highway. Part of that work will include improvements to nine bridges and structures in the project area.
