The Veterans Breakfast Club will hold its second special Veterans Annual Celebration Breakfast event at the Rivers Casino from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 6.
The keynote speaker is Eric McElvenny, who lost his leg in Afghanistan but worked to become a world-class athlete and competed in this year’s Paralympics in Paris, according to a VBC news release. McElvenny lost his right leg below the knee after stepping on an IED during a patrol in 2011. This life-altering injury didn’t stop him from pursuing athletics, but it motivated him to take on new challenges, including Ironman races, and led to the Paralympics. He placed ninth in the triathlon.
Rocky Bleier, Vietnam veteran and former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, will be on hand to share his story and meet attendees among other featured guests. World War II veterans will also be sharing their stories.
“Last year we had our first Veterans Breakfast Celebration, and it was a huge success. We anticipate another packed house with veterans, family members, and supporters again this year,” VBC Executive Director Todd DePastino said in the news release.
The event will include raffle baskets, auction items and swag bags for every attendee. Also in attendance will be 36 veterans organizations, nonprofits and service providers with information materials for veterans and their families.
This event fee is $10 per person for the buffet breakfast and is open to everyone, veterans and non-veterans, 21 and over. The casino offers free parking.
VBC is currently accepting reservations here for the event.
