As the weather continues to be warmer than normal, weekend road work continues. Here’s a rundown of the usual suspects to watch out for:

  • Downtown Pittsburgh – The outbound lane of Sixth Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday beginning at Ross Street for paving as part of Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s preparation for new bus stations as part of the University Line project. Crews for Independence Excavating Inc. have been relocating sewers, installing traffic signals and doing other preparation work for five new bus stations in the Golden Triangle that are expected to open early next year. The $291 million project will have exclusive bus lanes inbound on Fifth Avenue and outbound on Forbes Avenue to prevent buses from bunching and keep them on their published schedule.
  • Parkway East – The highway will have traffic reduced to one lane in each direction from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday while crews install a latex overlay on the road surface. The inbound restriction will be between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Garden City Drive overpass in Monroeville while for outbound travelers the restriction is between the Garden City overpass and the Monroeville exit. The work is part of the $70.1 million improvement project from Churchill to the Route 48 exit in Monroeville that will last into 2026.
  • Interstate 79 – Traffic will be reduced to one lane on the northbound side of the highway in Robinson and Kennedy from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday while crews do concrete overlay work to protect the surface of the roadway. The work area is near the structure over Route 60, just north of the Route 60 Crafton/Moon Run exit. Golden Triangle Construction Co. Inc. is the contractor of the $15 million project to upgrade the highway from the Interstate 376 Airport/Pittsburgh exit to a half mile north of the Route 60 interchange.
  • I-79 – The northbound side of Neville Island Bridge in Robinson and Neville will be reduced to one lane from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday. Crews will make deck repairs as part of a $44 million project to improve an area known as “S bend” along with a series of bridges and ramps.
  • McKnight Road – The area between Ivory and Roseland avenues on Pittsburgh’s North Side will be reduced to one lane each way from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday. That will allow crews from Lindy Paving Inc. to do repair work on the bridge over Nelson Run Road. The highway is in the midst of a $27 million upgrade from Venture Street on the North Side to Perrymont in McCandless through next spring.
