After months of lane restrictions, all lanes of the outbound Parkway East are open between Churchill and Monroeville.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that the long-term outbound restriction on the highway is done for now. Inbound traffic continues to have one lane closed for construction, but the department said that may be done soon, too.

The highway has had long-term and weekend traffic restrictions throughout the construction season as part of a $70.1 million upgrade that will last until the fall of 2026.

The work by Swank Construction Co. involves improvements to nine bridges on the highway in Churchill, Wilkins, Penn Hills and Monroeville and repaving most of the roadway. The project covers about 4.5 miles.

Next year, traffic is expected to be disrupted again with a long-term crossover of traffic to one side of the highway so construction can take place on the other side.
