Part of Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s Silver Line-Library reopened Friday morning, but the section between Library Station in South Park and Lytle Station in Bethel Park is expected to remain closed through next week.

The suburban end of the system was closed Wednesday after an electrical problem, stopping light rail trains from running past Washington Junction. As of Friday morning, they can run as far as Lytle Station and shuttle buses will take riders from there as far at Library Station via Route 88.

Shuttles had been running from Washington Junction to Library.

The rest of the system to Downton Pittsburgh and the city’s North Side continues to operate as normal.

The closure occurred in one of the oldest parts of the system, where overhead electric lines were retrofitted in the 1980s to work with new light rail trains. The agency is replacing those lines with a new system that is expected to improve stability and reliability.
