The holiday season is filled with sparkling decorations, beautifully wrapped packages, get-togethers with family and friends — and plenty of waste. Something to consider as the countdown to all the festivities is dwindling down to just a few days.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, each American produces approximately 4.4 pounds of waste every day, but easy ways exist to reduce this amount and to recycle much of what we can’t avoid wasting, according to the Pennsylvania Resources Council.

This year the nonprofit organization created a Holiday Greening Guide that can help anyone create a more meaningful and waste-free holiday season. That includes creative ideas for wrapping presents, feeding guests and cleaning up after the party.

The guide includes a resources section to connect people with a variety of organizations, too, and it offers options for recycling electronics.
