Michael Stuart and Rachel Sandoval met through a dating app in 2021, shortly after Rachel moved to Pittsburgh. They realized they lived only a few blocks away from each other, and what started as casual walks together through Frick Park led to long runs multiple days per week.

Patty Lilja and Judy Douglas met through friends in 2015. Lilja grew up next to Frick Park and spent most of her childhood playing, biking, sledding and more there. So during the pandemic, they organized gatherings there with friends to help their mental health.

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is calling on more park lovers like these two couples to share their stories about how Pittsburgh’s green spaces have played a role in their love lives.

According to a news release, “Whether you first met your partner on a park trail, got engaged in a scenic grove or married in one of the city’s beloved green spaces, the Parks Conservancy wants to hear your story.”

Love story submissions are accepted through Friday, Feb. 14, at pittsburghparks.org/park-story.

Submissions may be featured on the Parks Conservancy’s website or social media channels, showcasing the connections and memories Pittsburgh’s parks inspire.

“Pittsburgh’s parks are more than just beautiful green spaces. They are places where people create connections and lifelong memories,” Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy President and CEO Catherine Qureshi pointed out in the release. “We’re excited to hear how our city’s parks have been a part of your love story and to celebrate these meaningful moments with our community.”

Both couples indeed did choose park facilities to hold their weddings, according to the conservancy’s website.

The stories will be posted on the conservancy’s website.
