Clairton phenom Iyanna Wade keeps finding new ways to make history — and she might not be done just yet.

Needing only 11 points to become the fourth girls player in WPIAL history to join the 3,000-point club, Wade scored a game-high 32 to spark the Bears (17-4) to a 48-25 home win against Ellis School (8-9) in Monday’s regular-season finale. Already the leading scorer in school history, the 5-4 senior added another memorable moment to a career filled with them by banking in a layup off the glass to give Clairton a 15-10 lead in the second quarter.

“For it to be on senior night, it meant a lot,” Wade said. “It was probably my biggest achievement so far.”

Along with surpassing the 3,000-point plateau for her career, Wade finished the regular season with an average of 41.6 points per game to become the first player in WPIAL history to average 40 ppg in back-to-back seasons. Now up to 874 points on the year, Wade also has a chance to become the first player to tally 1,000 points in two consecutive seasons.

“I’m so over stimulated,” said Wade during a phone conversation after the game. “So many people want to take pictures with me and talk to me.”

Wade already holds the single-game WPIAL record of 65 points, but there is one more record that might just be too far away for her to reach — the WPIAL career scoring record of 3,364 points held by Monessen’s Gina Naccarato. Currently sitting at 3,021 points going into the postseason, Wade would need to score 344 points in the playoffs to eclipse Naccarato’s seemingly untouchable mark. In order to give herself a chance, she would likely need to lead the Bears all the way to the WPIAL and PIAA championship games.

It’s certainly a long shot, but if anybody can do it, it’s Wade.

“Right now, all the [individual] accomplishments are over with, and you know what I really want the most,” Wade said. “That’s my goal right now, taking the team on my back and getting down to the Petersen Events Center.”
