Local students can prepare for a summer of exploration, discovery and outdoor fun with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. Registration for its popular summer camps at the Frick Environmental Center are now open.
The weeklong camps are designed for youth ages 4 through eighth grade and provide hands-on activities, from woodland hikes and science experiments to team challenges and creative outdoor play, according to a conservancy news release. Campers will explore the natural world while using the FEC — one of the greenest buildings in the world — as their home base.
“Summer camp at Frick Park is all about adventure, curiosity, and connection” Director of Education and the Frick Environmental Center James Brown said in the release. “Campers discover the wonders of the outdoors, try new things and gain confidence in a fun supportive environment. It’s an experience they’ll carry with them long after summer ends.”
This year’s offerings include:
- Kinder Camp from June 9-July 3 for ages 4 through kindergarten.
- Habitat Adventures Camp from July 14-July 25 for rising first and second graders.
- Nature Explorers Camp from July 28-Aug. 8 for third and fourth graders.
- Outdoor Expeditions Camp from June 23-July 3 for fifth and sixth graders.
- Survival Camp from June 9-June 20 for seventh and eighth graders.
Most camps run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Due to high demand, each child may participate in only one session per summer.
To ensure all children have the opportunity to experience summer camp, limited Campership scholarships are available for eligible families. Parents are encouraged to apply early.
More information about the summer camp programs and Campership eligibility is available at pittsburghparks.org/summercamp.
